An ApplicationSaul had quite a display of pride. First he makes a stupid declaration that no one should eat until he's victorious, then he doubled down and says if his son is guilty then he'll be put to death. Saul's psychosis is starting to show. Contrast that to Jonathan's attitude of wisdom and patience. Jonathan is a wonderful example of a person who came so close to greatness but was robbed of it by his dad, and he wasn't recorded as ever getting bitter about it. (He was a good role model of EX 20:12.)

Connect the Dots1SA 14:39 was a curious declaration of devotion to God. Reminds us of Jephthah in JDG 11:30-31. Later, Jesus will say LK 14:26, but this wasn't what He meant. / Scrutinizing 1SA 14:49-50, Jonathan will be a major character until 1SA 31, but nothing more will be said of Saul's other sons, his older daughter, nor his wife. His younger daughter will be given in marriage to his successor. Abner we'll read about a few times until 2SA 3. / The blood restriciton will still be recognized in AC 15:28-29.
